Welcome to our new website & structure

Dear KLABU Family,

Welcome to our new website! Our updated online home allows anyone to join the KLABU and unlock the power and joy of sports in refugee camps and beyond. Take a look, let us know what you think and if you’re excited, please share with your friends, that would be amazing.

It’s been over a year since we launched KLABU in Kenya in the Kalobeyei Refugee Settlement, and in Amsterdam at Wieden+Kennedy. Driven by our ambition to unlock opportunities through sports and connect a global community, until today we have welcomed 11,154 club members to the first KLABU Clubhouse in Kalobeyei and thousands of supporters to join the KLABU through our brand. All of us share the vision that sports has the power to move the world forward. We are nowhere near done.

To get ready to scale, we have changed the structure of the KLABU organisation by establishing a social enterprise to develop and sell KLABU products and raise funds for the KLABU Foundation. The foundation receives 50% of the social enterprise’s profit or 10% of the revenue, whichever is higher, while the remaining 50% profit is reinvested into the social enterprise.
Through the foundation we will keep finding sponsors to cover the setup costs of new Clubhouses, while we will raise funds for the operating costs to run the Clubhouses through the social enterprise. For every €5 we fundraise, we can power access to sports for one person for one year through one of our Clubhouses: when you get yourself a brand new KLABU jersey, you are giving a young refugee athlete access to sports through our Clubhouses.

This development means that we can grow our impact and build a healthy organisation that doesn’t rely entirely on donations. Allowing the KLABU Foundation to thrive and focus fully on our mission to power sports for young athletes in refugee camps and beyond through KLABU Clubhouses.

We want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who has stood by us these past months and stands with us today. More than ever do we feel that together, we can help thousands #jointheklabu, both Away and Home.

Be well,
