“A sportsman is a sportsman, no matter what age.”

At 82, Momo, M’bera’s Camp Coordinator, continues to defy age and time. Known affectionately as the “Chief of the Camp,” he has lived through displacement, led through change, and still begins each morning with walking 10.000 steps.

Growing up in Mali, Momo was always moving.

Whether it was traditional wrestling or running, you would always find him out and about. “I even used to run through thorny bushes, nothing could stop me”. Eventually, that hobby and fascination of the impact sports has on the human body and mind,  became Momo’s profession.  As a teacher of Physical Education and Physics, Momo was inspired to share his knowledge and passion with the next generation.

Fast forward years later, and Momo’s passion still goes strong.

Now sharing his wisdom and love for sports with all generations, Momo motivates not just the younger kids in the M’bera camp but also mobilises the elderly. To show good leadership, one must be strong and healthy - both in mind and body, he states, spoken like a true “Chief of of the Camp”.

Momo’s presence at the KLABU clubhouse is a source of respect and inspiration for all generations.

Through his discipline and dedication, Momo reminds the community that spirit has no age and that the right to move belongs to everyone. Momo's story is one of endurance, respect, and unshakable belief in community.

"This is the role that I play here at KLABU. Sport brings young people together and strengthens peaceful coexistence."
