KLABU x Gaza Sunbirds
Cycling shirt sportswear jersey

Meet the Gaza Sunbirds: a remarkable para-cycling team that will represent Palestine at the World Cup in a jersey designed by KLABU.

Earlier this year, we had the chance to meet the Gaza Sunbirds. Their team does fantastic work, using sport to support Palestinians in Gaza and Palestinian refugees beyond. When they asked us to create their cycling jersey, we were proud to do so.

This jersey represents more than just racewear: it is a symbol of hope and strength for refugees worldwide, capturing the spirit of sport that we all believe in.

The Gaza Sunbirds was launched by Alaa al-Dali in 2020, after he suffered an amputation after being shot in the leg at a peaceful protest in Gaza. He assembled 19 teammates with similar injuries and rewrote his personal ambition of competing individually into a collective project using sport to empower others.

In 2024, Alaa made history as the first Palestinian to compete at the UCI Para-cycling World Championships in Zürich. Now, he prepares to compete once again - this time joined by teammate Mohamed Asfour.

"It is very important for us to be able to compete on the global sports stage. As athletes, we simply aspire to have the same chances our international peers receive. We are participating on behalf of everyone who has been prevented from achieving their dreams. Our message to them is: Never give up! "
