Why sportswear?

KLABU sportswear emerged from a need in refugee camps for suitable clothing to play sports. Instead of relying on other brands, we chose to create our own.
Through the club shirts and badges we could give our clubhouses and club members their own identity and pride. A feeling of belonging. Each badge is carefully designed with our club members to represent their clubhouse, their story, their community.
By selling KLABU sportswear globally, we also generate income to support our clubhouses. And we shift the narrative: the club members are the players, the heroes. Instead of our club members wearing second-hand football shirts from teams around the world, people around the world can wear their shirt and become their supporters!
We know that producing apparel has an environmental impact. Below you will find our efforts towards making our processes better. We focus on "Reduce, Recycle and Repurpose":
- Reduce: we do not function as a fashion brand with no overproduction accountability. Our sportswear is developed together with our partner State of Football in the Netherlands. A key reason for this setup is the low minimum order quantity (from 150 items), which allows us to produce in small batches and avoid overproduction: one of the biggest challenges in the apparel industry.
- Recycle: 99% of our new products are made from 100% recycled PET or organic cotton, and most of our packaging is biodegradable.
- Repurpose: we invite people to send us any KLABU sportswear items lying around which they don’t use anymore. We find purpose in them through upcycling them into new products or using them for our sports projects.

We believe sustainability is not about perfection, it is about continuous improvement. We will keep refining our materials, production processes, and transparency as we scale.
